The Salwan Golf Cup 2017 'School Golf Championship'

Salwan Schools are one of the first "Day Schools" in India, providing facilities for Golf to students with effective participation at the State and National Level Golf Tournaments. Salwan Golf Championship aims at nurturing talent and generating a regime of talented school level golfers. Through this event we endeavour to provide young golfers a platform for opening a new avenue of sports at the school level to fill the vaccum at the highest levels of golf (World Championships and Olympics). It is with this objective that Salwan Education Trust, in collaboration with Delhi Golf Society and Indian Golf Union, the Recognized Golf Body of India has been organising "Salwan Golf Championship" since 2014.

Spurred with the remarkable success of the event in the previous years, The 4th Annual Salwan Golf Championship, 2017 was held from 4th - 8th December, 2017 at the ITC Classic Golf Resort and Country Club at Manesar, Haryana.

The Inaugural Tee Off was held on 5th December 2017 and Lt Gen Sanjeev Kumar Shrivastava, Director General Border Roads graced the momentous occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the prestigious tournament. Shri Sushil Dutt Salwan, Chairman, Salwan Education Trust felicitated the esteemed guest. In his address the distinguished guest encouraged the budding golfers to chase their dreams with a strong determination.

The total field of 100 top amateur golfers representing renowned schools from all over the Country including Army Public School, Delhi Public School (Noida, Vasant Vihar, Mathura Road & Sonipat), Modern School (Vasant Vihar & Barakhamba Road, New Delhi), The British School, The Sri Ram School, Amity International School, The Indian School , Scottish High International School, Air Force Bal Bharti School, Lotus Valley International School, Government Boys Senior Secondary School Badarpur, Sanskriti School, The Asian School, The Millenium School (Lucknow), Mount Carmel School (Mohali), Kendriya Vidyalayay (Kapurthala) among others, participated in the mega-event. The students and faculty members from the Salwan fraternity, parents of the participants and aspiring golfers were among the spectators.

During the four days of the mega event, the golf course witnessed, exemplary skills of talented golfers, their unparalleled focus, consistency and dedication. The young golf warriors proved their mettle confidently. The thrill and excitement of the enthusiastic supporters knew no bounds. Applause and gaiety reverberated around the golf resort throughout the four-day tournament!

The Award Ceremony was held on 8th December 2017. Shri O.P. Singh IPS, Additional Director General, Haryana Police and Shri Sumit Bhatnagar, Vice President - Group HR, ANAND Group adorned the occasion as the Guests of Honour. Shri O.P. Singh shared his valuable insights on the importance of Sports and Games in one's life. The esteemed guests inspired the young golfers to achieve their goals with unshakeable will. Shri O.P. Singh IPS and Shri Sumit Bhatnagar presented the Winner Boy and the Winner Girl Trophies to Saurav Rathi of UCSKM Public School, Bhiwadi Rajasthan and Ritika Raina of DPS, New Delhi respectively.

In other results, Category B was the most fiercely contested event amongst the boys as Aditya Sood of Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh blitzed to a win over Rachit Poddar of Heritage School, Gurgaon. The Girls Category B was won by Serena Vikram Singh of Lotus Valley International, Delhi. Category C boys title was clinched by Sukhman Singh of Amity International, Noida over Vinamra Anand, DPS NOIDA, while it was Saumya Nehra of Amity International, Noida who came out trumps in the girls Category C.

The youngest of the lot went head to head for the Category D title and it was Parth Raman Sood of Kothari International School, Delhi who took home the Boys event over Manraj Singh Deol, DIPS KPT, Delhi . Feroza Bakshi of R.S. Junior Modern School, Delhi added another feather in her cap as she was awarded as the youngest player of the tournament.
