About Our School

Salwan Public School Afternoon, an extension of Salwan Public School Rajendra Nagar is a co-educational School affiliated to CBSE. Established on 8th May 1991 in the Golden Jubilee Year of Salwan Education Trust, the school stands tall as a premier institute of learning. The school came into inception to meet the soaring demands of the parents to provide quality education to the young learners. Since then, the school has been creating new standards in both scholastic and co scholastic domains. It provides the students a congenial and conducive learning environment where the student teacher ratio is optimum. At present the school is running successfully from classes I-X.

Clubs

Clubs form an integral part of learning. In order to ensure optimum benefit to a child’s aptitude, the clubs are based on a collaborative approach adopted by all the Faculties. Clubs will be allotted according to the following criteria:-

The aim of each club is to develop curiosity, in-depth knowledge and presentation skills of the subject. Workshops and seminars by professionals, presentations by students and field visits will give them hands on experience. The students are divided in five groupsviz.

House System

The school follows a House System wherein students from classes IV to X are uniformly registered. This system gives the students ample opportunities to interact with other students via Inter- House Competitions, House Assemblies and different Cultural programmes. This exercise aims to promote a harmonious growth and exchange of ideas in a competitive learning environment.

The students are divided into various Houses and each House is named after Nobel Laureates visionaries whose vision and virtues are benchmark of commitment, selfless dedication and success. Qualities of leadership, teamwork, zeal and enthusiasm are fostered through this system. The names of the Houses are as follows:-

Each house is led by a Prefect and a Captain who are responsible for the overall discipline of the House. Various Inter- House competitions in the school are conducted from time to time. Marshals are selected from each class to assist in maintaining discipline in the school.

Orientation Programmes Science Workshop

To provide an insight into the school system and various initiatives of session 2017-18, Orientation Programmes for all classes were conducted in the month of April. The following points were deliberated upon in the sessions.

  • Open door assessment for classes IV to VII
  • Importance of regular homework, minimal use of gadgets and constant motivation to engage the young generation in outdoor activities.
  • ‘UNIVARIETY’ a career counselling organisation the school has collaborated with to offer individual career counseling to the students of classes IX-X.
    School Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Khetarpal in her address assured the parents that school is committed to excellence in education. She laid emphasis on the following points.

  • Enhancement of reading, speaking and writing skills.
  • Issue of heavy and fancy bags was discussed, and parents were advised to help children carry books
  • according to the planner
  • Focus on regular tracking of goals in Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual domains.
  • Focus on child’s emotional security and confidence building

The parents were encouraged to work in collaboration with the school for their holistic development. The session concluded with an interactive session with the parents and their concerns were duly addressed.

A three day capacity building workshop was organized by Intel with an objective to train the teachers to use technology in the classroom with proficiency and ease. Ms Mansi, T.G.T. Chemistry attended this workshop in the Atal Tinkering Lab at Salwan Girls School.

  • The workshop enriched the teachers by involving them in various hands on activities related to the LED, use of LDR(Light Dependent Resistor) and NPN Transistor in a circuit.
  • It also familiarized the teachers with the use of programming and algorithms used in robotics. They assembled the parts of a robot Mi-Bot which would run on programming.
  • After the working of Mi-Bot, controlling of Mi-Bot was demonstrated using an android application via Bluetooth.
  • This was followed by the use of ultrasonic sensor in Mi-Bot and the programming of same. This can help the Mi-Bot to turn to some other side if it senses any obstacle in its way.
  • The teachers worked in groups to design the circuits using breadboard and arduino kit connected to the laptop provided to each team.
Achievers' Day  
The School organized Achievers' Day on 19th May ,2017 to felicitate its achievers in both Scholastic and Co-scholastic domains for the session 2016-2017. The chief guest of the event was Dr Rajni Kumar, founder of Springdales Group of Schools. The students were honoured with medals, certificates and prizes in recognition of their hard work and sincere efforts.

Asian Festival of Childrens Content (AFCC, Singapore) Shimla Trip
The Asian Festival of Childrens Content (AFCC) is an annual festival in Singapore that celebrates and promotes the creation and appreciation of childrens books and content, with a focus on Asian themes. With an objective to give an insight into the teaching learning practices adopted worldwide, Salwan Education Trust provided an opportunity to two teachers from SPS Afternoon to attend AFCC 2017.

Writers & Illustrators Conference: Attended by Ms. Neha Taneja from 17th May to 19th May,2017
Teachers Congress: Attended by Ms. Neetu Bhateja from 19th May to 21st May.

->The country of focus was Indonesia. The festival witnessed the participation of writers and illustrators from Singapore and Indonesia.

->The teachers got an opportunity to visit two schools St. James Church Kindergarten and Ang Mo Kio, Primary School. The visit gave an insight into the schools efforts to hone students linguistic skills.

->Digital Detox is the need of the hour to help children reconnect. Day dreaming must be encouraged and children to be motivated for free style writing.

->Critical literacy is the new basic. Students should be equipped with the skills to think critically, introspect, evaluate and solve problems mutually.
The school organized an excursion to Shimla from 26th May to 30th May, 2017 for the students of both SPS Morning and Afternoon.

The students got an opportunity to visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) and The Army Heritage Museum where they saw the flags of different regiments and models of various army equipment. The students enjoyed adventurous activities such as Flying Fox, Rappelling, Obstacle Course Race Swing, and Double Rope Bridge to the hilt.
Craft Awareness Programme
A craft workshop was organised in the school Amphitheatre from 12th July to 14th July with an aim to spread awareness regarding our rich cultural heritage and help students realise their creative potential. The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Textile, Govt of India, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and COHAND (Council of Handicrafts Development Corporation). The students got an opportunity to interact with the artisans of National repute and learn pottery, doll making and paper craft.
