A Journey of Heritage and Patriotism
In keeping with the tradition of honouring valour and patriotism, Salwan Education Trust organised the annual educational visit for students of Salwan schools under its aegis, to Kargil to pay tribute to the martyrs and defenders of our nation’s borders. This year, a group of 30 students and 4 teachers from six Salwan schools participated in the educational and cultural trip to Leh and Kargil from 6th to 10th September 2024.
The trip was designed to introduce students to the historical, cultural, and geographical significance of the Leh-Ladakh region while fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s military heritage. Accompanied by faculty members, students explored monasteries, palaces, war memorials, and other significant landmarks, gaining insights into the region’s history and its role in shaping national pride.
A key highlight was the visit to the Drass/Kargil War Memorial near Tiger Hills, where students paid homage at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, with a profound sense of reverence. The group also toured the Kargil Museum, learning about the courage and sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. An interaction with Maj. L. Lamba of the Assam Regiment provided students with a unique soldier’s perspective on commitment, valour and dedication, making the experience truly unforgettable.
This journey not only expanded their understanding of history and culture but also instilled in them a deep sense of patriotism, making the trip a truly enriching experience for both students and staff.
