Language and Literacy – Exploring Channels of Communication
The wonderful world of stories, nursery rhymes, songs, role-play and drama within a language rich learning environment, stimulates the children’s curiosity and helps their learning of phonics and the development of fundamental reading and writing skills. To enable pre-reading and pre-writing skills, Montessori apparatus is used extensively. Each class is equipped with a reading corner for children that holds a number of national and international children’s books.
Numeracy & Pre Number Concepts
Skills related to comparison, sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting are nurtured. Applying numeracy to real life situations through dice games, hopscotch, ganit mala makes learning enjoyable.
To understand the environment and nature, children are involved in discussions, projects, nature-walks. The use of magnets, magnifying glasses, weighing scales, strainers, sound boxes, grinders inculcates a scientific temperament.
Physical Development (Gross and Fine Motor Skills)
Childhood is associated with lot of energy and bubbling enthusiasm. During these early years, the children need a lot of activities for the optimum growth and development. The learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, provides the children with stimulating and challenging learning opportunities to develop their coordination and control through daily warming-up exercises, free-play, sand play aerobics, gymnastics, adventure sports, yoga and skating. The school uses Physical Education Cards recommended by CBSE in the sports curriculum. The P.E.C cards are a focussed and structured approach for delivering physical education in pre-primary classes. They aim to build a healthy and fit generation by initiating a trend of joyful learning.
Children are fascinated by colours, painting, drawing, creating, moulding and crafting. They are encouraged to explore sound, colour, texture, shape, form and space in two and three dimensions. Children are prompted to reflect upon their thoughts and emotions through their choices of colour and texture.
The focus is on understanding the elements of music, learning songs and rhymes, using instruments and express themselves through music and dance.
