Overview

Salwan recognises the importance of preserving the innate curiosity of early childhood throughout the primary years.

The Primary wing is the nursery that nurtures healthy, happy, confident, young  Salwanians….Michael Dias

1) Curriculum: An  integrated ,contextual and flexible curriculum is followed.

2) Examination System: Continuous Evaluation system prevails  till class III. Two periodic tests and two formal Examinations are conducted  for Class IV and V.

3)  Primary Computer Lab- It is equipped with the latest hardware and software. The lab has computers with access to network. The  software programs are age appropriate and aimed at making learning fun. Students have been bringing laurels to school by bagging gold, silver and bronze medals in Cyber and Informatics Olympiads .

4) Library- It is a treasure house of old classics, modern fiction, magazines, journals and innumerable reference books. Students are motivated to gift a book to the class library on their birthdays.

 5) Music & Fine Arts:-Music, dance, theatre, visual arts and dance are an integral part of life at Salwan. The budding artists are trained to sketch and paint, make various kinds of collages and mosaics and give shape to their imagination with the help of Clay, Origami, Pottery and Best out of waste.

6) Trips & Excursions:  Adventure camps and excursions to  places of interest and out station trips from time to time allow them to explore and gather  information to get real life experiences and be sensitized.

7) Games & Sports : Believing in the fact that   ‘A sound mind lives in a sound body’ . Training in games and sports  is provided that makes them calm, composed, decisive and  courageous . The school provides special coaching  for games and sports like: Skating, Football,  Taekwondo, Handball, Basketball, Hockey and Chess . Beginner’s Cup, a football match for class I is a fun filled annual event.

8) HOUSE SYSTEM  IN PRIMARY WING

Each house   wiz  Buddha House ,Gandhi House , Nanak House , Nehru House Tagore House ,Vivekananda House  &, has a monthly duty to conduct theme related activities, special assemblies for different festivals and special occasions.

The various Clubs  are  designed to enhance the curriculum as well as  to build life-long interests and hobbies in various areas of interest.

Reading club-to enhance reading habits .

Cookery club- to make students self dependent in cooking different recipes without the use of fire.

Computer club-to make them tech savvy as well as to prepare  them for various intra-school and interschool competitions.  E-pals initiative for cultural exchange with schools all across the globe .

Aryabhatta-to prepare children for various mathematical competitions.

Needle work-to make students self dependent in stitching. Class III onwards each  child can  stitch a button .

Yoga-to teach  yogic exercises  and ways of healthy living.

Flower Arrangement-to develop their  aesthetic sense.

Art & Craft club-to groom the latent artistic talent.

Music  & Dance club- teaches various classical & western Dance  and singing forms.

Theatre club-helps to develop confidence and overcome inhibitions.

Debate club-to develop oratory communication and reasoning skills.

Eco club- To spread awareness concerning our environment .Projects such as Air monitoring , Water harvesting, Paper recycling.  Eco beautification  cleaning and greening  the Ridge area( plantation drive) etc.

HIGHLIGHTS :


a) We are global and secular in our approach- The assemblies and activities are based on a monthly planner; the children get to know the significance of each day. Interactive sessions,  Class- wise Functions ,Toy Day and No Bag Day are regularly organized.

 
b)  NIE, News paper in Education: The Times of India, organizes educational workshops  and movie shows  for students.


c) Environment: We are on the global map of environment. For two consecutive years our school has bagged the Gobar Times Green School Award .


d)  Food and nutrition: ' A Healthy child is a Happy child' - 'Project Tiffin' is strictly followed. Fruit eating is compulsory. We have a weekly planned menu according to the dietary requirements of the children between the ages 6-10 years.  There is  no anaemic child in the primary section.

e) Exercise and Yoga programme- Regular exercise and physical fitness is built into the curriculum .Day commences  with Yogic and aerobic exercises Exercise is an integral part of morning assembly every day. We have regular health checkups,  yoga and daily meditation and aerobics.

f) Star child-A child who is  good in academics , sports, extra curricular activities  speaks good English  is  declared  the ‘Star Child‘ for the month.

g) Scholar Badge  ceremony and Good chits –  Students who excel in academics are awarded Scholar badges during the Scholar badge ceremony every year. Regular incentives  are  provided by way of good chits and prizes to avid readers and to students having good English conversational skills .

h)   Fun filled  weeks – Every month a week is dedicated to  a specific subject. Throughout the week fun filled activities   and competitions are organised to enable the children to comprehend , enhance and develop their interest in that  particular subject.

i) Value Education- Value education is incorporated  in curriculum in such a way that children learn the importance of moral values during regular learning and understand the difference between right and wrong path .

j) Thematic learning in class I , II and III – Activity based integrated curriculum and thematic teaching is  stressed upon.

k) Parallel teaching for slow learners-  Parallel teaching is conducted  with the help of Special Educator to bring slow learners or students  at par with the other students. .

l) Education for Visually challenged- The school caters to the special needs of visually impaired by providing them specialized attention in education   and other assistance  in the form of food, transport , books  etc.

m)  Celebrating Birthdays- Birthdays are special as along with sweets  children distribute saplings to their classmates, which are nurtured by them.

n) Get Active Health Programme – To spread awareness about healthy lifestyle various fun filled activities like making food pyramids, balanced diet charts   are conducted under Get Active programme.
